Zenica City Museum is organizing residencies where, over a period of six weeks, participating designers and other profiles will be guided through the process of researching the value of heritage, testing the possibilities of different materials, and producing an object – from traditional heritage bases through craftsmanship to new objects/exhibits.
The residency, organized by the State Art Collections Dresden, Museum of Decorative Arts (SKD), saw textile designer and scientist Kim Cordes explore how traditional German techniques of silk and wool processing could be combined with modern material research to find innovative ways of extending the lifecycle of these natural materials.
The residency facilitated by the Zenica City Museum provided a unique space to examine the intersection of heritage and contemporary design, combining heritage design with goldsmithing / jewellery making.
The residency by Zenica City Museum brings together product design student Adin Alispahić and blacksmith Miran Matošević to collaborate on creating innovative metal and woodwork pieces inspired by traditional Bosnian crafts, which will be used for a new permanent exhibition of the Zenica City Museum.
The workshops organised by University of Applied Sciences, faculty Angewandte Kunst Schneeberg will offer young designers, craftspeople and creatives an opportunity to experiment with wood, guided by mentors in engineering, craft, and design. Through lectures, workshops and field trips, participants will explore innovative uses of wood in the 21st century, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration and creative proposals. The workshops will produce a series of completed exhibition-quality pieces, expressive studies and prototypes.
