The residency by Zenica City Museum brings together product design student Adin Alispahić and blacksmith Miran Matošević to collaborate on creating innovative metal and woodwork pieces inspired by traditional Bosnian crafts, which will be used for a new permanent exhibition of the Zenica City Museum.
1 July-30 September 2024 | Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina | Zenica City Musuem
Adin Alispahić, a student of Product Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, collaborated with Miran Matošević, a blacksmith from Nova Bila. Adin has worked on various projects, such as creating ceramic pots inspired by Bosnian wood carvings and the façades of Sarajevo. He has also worked with wood and metal in a similar manner, drawing from his previous inspirations to create something new for the Zenica City Museum.
Taking into account Miran’s expertise, they are designing a metal frame for a wooden shelf. Using a heated metal piece, they apply different patterns to the wood. In the initial stages, Miran and Adin collaborate to explore creative ways of “playing” with current crafting techniques.
The Foundation
The local community is rooted in traditional crafts, where age-old techniques helped people turn raw materials into products. Today, we have the opportunity to develop something entirely new, yet inspired by the past.
The Imaginative Process
By applying the principles of traditional crafts, especially working with metal and precious metals, participants will create new products and exhibits for the permanent ethnological exhibition at the Zenica City Museum. These creations will reflect a blend of craft heritage and modern design ideas.
The New Exhibition Setup
The planned outcomes include detailed documentation of the working process, prototypes of new products that combine traditional materials, tools, and manufacturing methods with innovative designs, as well as videos that will be part of the exhibition display.
